New Caribbean coffee shop Jamaica Blue could be coming to Braehead

Plans have been lodged for a new Caribbean coffee shop at Braehead boasting premium brews and high-quality grub.

Foodco UK Group has submitted £135,000 proposals to Renfrewshire Council for a Jamaica Blue cafe in place of a vacant retail unit at the major Renfrew shopping centre.

It looks set to be the first Jamaica Blue in Scotland, with eight already open south of the border.

The name is drawn from the Caribbean country’s Blue Mountains, where the chain gets its coffee beans from.

The region is regarded as one of the best coffee producing regions in the world.

A set of drawings indicate there would be 71 seats inside the cafe alongside 37 tables.

And it looks set to be decorated with greenery walls and large pictures, including one detailing facts about the history of Blue Mountain coffee.

Other pieces of wall art proposed include a colourful pineapple used as a symbol of hospitality for locals in Jamaica, with the fruit often being presented to guests as a sign of gratitude.

The chain’s website says it prides itself on food made fresh on the premises and the offering includes a range of all-day breakfast and brunch options as well as sandwiches and burgers.

A cover letter included with the drawings states: “The proposed use will not result in any detrimental impact on the adjacent units or the wider shopping centre.

“The use will complement other retail uses and add to the experience for shoppers visiting Braehead.

“We, therefore, request the application is approved.”

A final decision on whether to approve the plans is due by September 27.
