New care home at major development near Netherfield could be ready next year - and it will create 50 jobs

A new care home complete with cinema and a hairdressing salon could be ready for residents by the end of next year if a proposal for the project gets the go-ahead.

LNT Care Developments has submitted plans to Gedling Borough Council for the facility to be built on the £30 million Teal Park development, which will be built on the wider Teal Close development between Netherfield and Stoke Bardolph where the Rivendell housing development is also being being built.

The company says the 66-bed care home would also create 50 full time jobs.

The announcement marks the next step on the 20-acre Teal Park site after it was sold last month paving the way for work to begin on a new restaurant, food store and employment units. More than 800 homes are also expected to be built in the coming years.

Nick Broadbent, development director at LNT Care Developments, said: "We felt there was a strong requirement for a purpose-built care home with modern facilities and the site has a strong, prominent location.

"We pride ourselves on providing state-of-the-art facilities that improve the lives of our residents by promoting active lifestyles and independence.

"We have submitted the planning application and would hope to hear in the next couple of months. If we are successful, the care home would open towards the end of 2020."

The home would be the company's fifth complex in Nottinghamshire and all the bedrooms would be en-suite and come with wet rooms. Other facilities would include a coffee shop, a garden room and a library.

Teal Park, off Colwick loop Road, is being developed by property firm AC Lloyd alongside retail development specialist Henry Davidson Developments (HDD).

It is proposed the overall development will be delivered in different phases over the next three years, with other facilities on the site including a pub or restaurant, a trade park and children's nursery.

Mark Edwards, managing director of AC Lloyd Commercial, said: “We are delighted that a nationally-renowned provider of high-quality care homes has committed themselves to this employment-generating gateway site, and we hope they will be the first of many excellent occupiers.

“This emphasises their commitment and trust in the development which is already attracting interest from various sectors particularly in the retail industry.”

Scott Davidson, managing director of Nottingham and Birmingham-based HDD, added: “We have worked with LNT on numerous schemes nationwide, and are delighted to have secured them again as part of the important gateway development at Teal Park."

The Teal Close development is situated near the Victoria Retail Park. It has been earmarked to eventually accommodate a total of 830 homes, with 200 properties already approved.

Housebuilding company Persimmon Homes has developed the very first properties for the site.

The development will link to the new £40 million Gedling Access Road, and it has also been named Rivendell in a nod to the area's link to Lord of the Rings.
