New car technology could help cure road rage by monitoring driver's mood

Drivers suffering from road rage may be helped to calm down through hi-tech equipment built into the car.

Jaguar Land Rover is using cameras and sensors to detect a motorist’s mood.

If it spots they are stressed, the car can alter the interior temperature, lighting or sounds to create a more calming environment.

A video released by the firm shows the car reacting by playing a cooking podcast.

The mood-detection system can also lower the temperature if the drivers yawns or shows signs of being tired.

Although JLR did not mention road rage, it did say 74% of people feel stressed every day.

The firm is also trialling a camera able to spot if passengers in the back look sleepy.

The company refused to say when the tech is launching.

Dr Steve Iley, of Jaguar Land Rover, said: “By taking a holistic approach to the individual driver we can make sure our customers remain comfortable and alert behind the wheel.”
