New café with 'irresistible' cakes set to open in Long Eaton

A new café with 'irresistible cakes' will be taking over an empty property in Long Eaton town centre.

Café Brulee will be opening in the former Claire's Accessories shop in High Street at the end of October.

Work is underway to transform the building into a vintage-style café, themed around 1960's St Tropez with all the glamour and nostalgia of the French Riviera.

More than 100 luxurious homemade cakes and mousses will be on sale - not all at the same time - with flavours such as berries, tropical, chocolate and hazelnut, and traditional favourites like Victoria sponge.

Brulee cake is the signature bake, a walnut cake with a creme brulee filling, decorated with cream and chocolate.

The shop is a joint venture between Alex Nikolov and Geri Ivanova, two Bulgarians who met in Nottingham.

Until now Geri has only baked cakes for friends but Alex was so impressed with her creativity and flavours that he persuaded her to go into business.

"You will not believe it - her cakes are irresistible. I think she puts angel dust in them," he said.

Geri, who will be baking on the premises, will also be taking orders for birthdays and any other special occasion cakes.

She said: "I'm feeling excited and a little nervous but full of energy and passion. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time and it’s a dream come true."

Among the mouthwatering treats are Bulgarian specialities. Garash cake is the ultimate chocolate lover's cake, with layers of walnut meringue and rich dark chocolate cream, enveloped in silky chocolate ganache.

Raffaello cake is a delicate and elegant almond sponge cake, with a white chocolate, mascarpone and coconut filling, topped with Raffaello Truffles, chopped almonds, white chocolate curls and shredded coconut.

Geri will also offer her special 100-year-old recipe of her grandma’s favourite cake that she has enjoyed since her childhood.

Vegan cakes will also be on sale.

The café, let through FHP Property Consultants, is set to open on October 31.

FHP associate director Oliver Marshall said: "Despite the impact of Covid-19 we are still receiving good demand from independent and regional tenants especially in market town locations.

"We really pleased to have let the former Claire’s Accessories shop. The property has been vacant for some time and the new tenants Café Brulee are really bringing something new to Long Eaton.

"It is a positive step and shows the strength of the town when new businesses choose to open here. Café Brulee have a good concept and excellent product so I look forward to seeing them succeed."
