New café to open in Ruddington

A new café will soon open in a Nottinghamshire village. A new plan has been approved to create a ground-floor café and a first-floor apartment at a row of terraced buildings on Wilford Road, Ruddington.

Part of the building is currently used as a hairdressers and the first floor is already in residential use. The owner of the building is seeking permission to change of use of the residential part of the ground floor to a café and restaurant.

Whilst some internal changes are required to enable the conversion to a café and restaurant, no external changes are proposed. The café would be able to seat 42 people, according to planning documents.

The detailed proposals involve creating a ground floor café/restaurant that would be accessed from Wilford Road via the existing access to the hairdressers. The kitchen and serving area would be to the rear of the building and the remainder would used for customer seating.

In a planning document, Alan Goodwin on behalf of applicant Chris Chawner said: "My client proposes to convert the entire ground of the properties back into café/restaurant with approximately seating for 42 people. The entrance will be via the existing shop front of number 18. There will be no altercations to the front of the building and minimal internal altercations.

"The first floor accommodation will be converted into a two bedroom apartment accessed via the existing front door of number 20. When my client purchased the property back in 1997 the property was mostly derelict apart from the hairdressers.

"Prior to this the entire ground floor of the building was a café, dating back to the 70s/80s." The application was granted permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council on May 16.
