
A test car of a new Shinkansen bullet train model featuring a longer nose to reduce noise when entering tunnels is unveiled Wednesday at Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.'s factory in Hyogo Ward, Kobe. The new car is designed for the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen lines. Its nose is about 16 meters long, a meter longer than the current model. East Japan Railway Co. plans to start test runs in May toward a commercial debut around 2030 at a maximum speed of 360 kph.
