New Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale's plan for first day of training ahead of Swindon Town game

Paul Tisdale will hold his first training session at Bristol Rovers on Friday morning, and he admits the tactical impact he can make ahead of Saturday's trip to Swindon Town is minimal.

However, the new Gas boss plans to "set the tone" at The Quarters before 18th-placed Rovers travel to the County Ground to face a Robins side two spots below them in League One.

The 47-year-old is yet to meet his players after being appointed on Thursday, and he expects his coaching staff of Jack Mesure, Kevin Maher and David Coles to play a big role in smoothing the transition after Ben Garner's sacking six days ago.

"I haven’t met with (the players) yet and I haven’t worked with any of them before, so it’s a fresh start for all of us," Tisdale told Bristol Live.

"The major impact in terms of me coming into the building and working with the players is the tone I set and the words I use.

"If you think correctly you act correctly, and I’ll be spending my time just trying to set a tone and be their best.

"There’ll be very little tactical information being given to those players. Let’s just see how tomorrow goes, but I’ll be leaning on the coaches.

"We’ve got some good coaches here, I’ve not worked with any of them before, but I’ll be very keen to see how I can work with them.

"There’s some good people here and I’ll need their collaboration as we start this journey."

Tisdale has inherited his coaching staff from Garner's regime, with the club keen to change only the manager.

That situation is nothing new for the former Exeter City and MK Dons boss.

"I’ve done it before," Tisdale said. "I went to Exeter on my own and adopted a new team off the pitch. The team behind the team off the pitch is just as important, and I’ve done it before.

"It doesn’t daunt me and I’ve got the wherewithal to articulate myself and translate all the directions I need to the people around me.

"I can’t wait to get to know them and create a team behind the team."
