New Bristol café is giving away free doughnuts to celebrate its launch

A new shop selling freshly made doughnuts and specialty coffee has opened in Bristol.

Small Goods at Temple Quay is the latest venture from Chris Chubb and John Drysdale, the duo behind two of Bristol’s most popular cafes - Small St Espresso in Small Street and Little Victories at Wapping Wharf.

For the initial ‘soft opening’ period over the next week, the Small Goods shop will be giving away a free doughnut with every coffee purchased.

Close to Temple Meads station, their third business is located at Glass Wharf in a regenerated area surrounded by a number of new offices and residential properties.

Small Goods serves a range of doughnuts made fresh from scratch each day on site. They are sold either on their own or in boxes.

The menu includes doughnuts with classic fillings such as raspberry jam, vanilla custard and chocolate alongside some more unusual flavours.

As well as the three core flavours, there will be three weekly specials created by chef Brian O’Hara. These include orange, honey and bay leaf custard, and a black cherry with Chantilly cream doughnut.

Doughnuts cost £2.50 each but there are also boxes of three for £7, six for £12 and a dozen for £22.

There will also be a range of Small Goods cakes for people to choose from, as well as a small savoury lunch offering.

In keeping with Small St Espresso and Little Victories, the coffee beans will be supplied by Clifton Coffee Roasters and brewed by experienced baristas.

“The reaction on the first day was amazing,” said Chris. "We made 160 doughnuts and they were all gone by 1pm.

“The main reason we wanted to open a doughnut shop is quite simply because we both love doughnuts. We also think they’re great for busy office areas like Temple Quay.

“Nearby workers can grab a box of doughnuts on their lunch break and take them back to the office to share with their colleagues.”

Chris and John took on the Glass Wharf unit at the end of 2019 before being forced to put everything on hold because of the pandemic.

In addition to the takeaway option, there is seating for around 20 people inside and this will open in a couple of weeks.

Small Goods is located at Unit 3, 2 Glass Wharf, BS2 0EL. It currently opens Mon-Fri 10am-3pm but will extend its hours in the coming weeks.
