New Bristol 'Banksy': Residents try to protect unconfirmed artwork as crowds gather

A protective plastic covering has now been placed over a Banksy-style mural in Totterdown.

Fred Loosmore, who moved out of the house on Vale Street last week, went to impressive lengths today (December 10) to safeguard the artwork.

Along with friend Sam Hunt, the pair measured the creation, went to their work shop and cut out a piece of acrylic to fit.

Several of Banksy's artworks have been destroyed in the past by vandals, so it's hoped this move will protect the work.

Mystery still surrounds who is behind today's mural.

Banksy has not posted the work on his Instagram account, which is his normal method of claiming a piece.

Crowds have been gathering to view the creation, which appeared on the side of a semi-detached house this morning.

The painting shows an old woman sneezing with her false teeth flying out, and looks similar to a number of previous works by the elusive artist.

Fred said he wasn’t sorry he had moved out: “I can still come and see it can’t I?”

Banksy has been doing a lot of work in England this year, including the "Hula-hoop" girl in Notthingham and a picture of a rat on the London underground.

Yesterday (December 9) a mysterious monolith was spotted on Glastonbury Tor, with 'Not Banksy' written half way up the installation.
