In 2022, L.A. Dance Project will celebrate its 10th anniversary, and the year will begin with a contemporary reinterpretation of Romeo & Juliet, staged at La Seine Musicale, on the outskirts of Paris, from Jan 13-22.
Van Cleef & Arpels has been supporting the dance troupe, since it was co-founded by Benjamin Millepied in 2012.
The renowned French choreographer and producer excelled in his dancing career at the New York City Ballet, where he performed from 1995 to 2011, becoming a principal in 2001.
His vision for L.A. Dance Project is to expand the boundaries of dance as an art form and redefine how people interact and relate with movement in the modern world.
The first iteration of Romeo & Juliet (2018) was performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
The modern-day take on William Shakespeare's tragedy set to Sergei Prokofiev's music unfolded in an urban environment, thanks to a projection system, with certain tableaus broadcast in real-time from unexpected places in the theatre and backstage while dancers pass from to stage to screen.
Likewise, for the upcoming site-specific Romeo & Juliet, Millepied will fuse the live performance with a cinematic exploration of the La Seine Musicale.
Other repertoires supported by Van Cleef & Arpels include the contemporary ballet trilogy Gems, comprising Reflections (2013), Hearts & Arrows (2014) and On The Other Side (2016).
Real gemstones, however, sparkle in a high-jewellery collection launched by the brand in 2019 to echo Millepied's version of Romeo & Juliet.
