London-headquartered Sweaty Betty is limbering up to expand in Asia, the upmarket fitness clothing chain’s new boss said on Tuesday.

Julia Straus, who has this month been promoted from managing director to chief executive, outlined expansion plans as she revealed the retailer sold one pair of its £75-£95 bum-sculpting leggings every minute in the first quarter of this year.

Straus will be looking to Asia for growth, as well as the firm's online business.

Prior to joining Sweaty Betty, which has over 60 shops in the UK and US, Straus led US beauty brand Tula.

She takes over from Simon Hill-Norton who becomes chairman. He co-founded Sweaty Betty with his wife Tamara in Notting Hill in 1998.

Creative chief Tamara Hill-Norton said she is looking forward to working with Straus to deliver the brand to new markets.

The most recent accounts Sweaty Betty has filed show turnover increased to £47.9 million in 2017, up from £39.7 million.
