New Book by Saudi Poet Abdullah Ahmed Alasmari Analyzes ‘Al-Shanfara’

Saudi poet and writer Abdullah Ahmed Alasmari recently published a new study entitled "Al-Shanfara: Poet of Brutality and Wastelands" that analyses "Lamiyyat al-Arab" written by the pre-Islamic poet Thabit ibn Aws al-Azdi, known as Al-Shanfara.

The book was released by The Literary Cultural Club in the Northern Borders Province and Al Intishar Al Arabi publishing house in Beirut.

It is comprised of three chapters. The first focuses on the biography of Al-Shanfara, his childhood, the poetic value of Lamiyyat al-Arab, and the rarity of the places mentioned in it.

The second chapter includes an appendix featuring a rare copy of Lamiyyat al-Arab which was printed by a historic Constantine publishing house in 1300 AD.

The third chapter interprets the semantic structure of Lamiyyat al-Arab composed of 68 verses that could form, according to its semantic structure, eight uneven units.

Alasmari also has a poems collection named "Hawra'a'' after the Hawr'a Valley in the Saudi region of Asir. It was published by Abha Literary Club.
