New Bolton complex near M61 will offer 1,500 jobs if built

A new industrial estate providing up to 1,500 jobs could be built in the green belt if councillors support the plans on Thursday.

The planning committee will decide whether Harworth Group can start work on the “strategic employment development” west of the Wingates Industrial Estate.

The company behind Logistics North in Over Hulton submitted plans for its latest project in two parts almost one year ago.

Since then, the site, which is a quarter of size of Logistics North, was earmarked for industrial development in Bolton’s submission to the region’s masterplan for homes, jobs and the environment.

Its sister site in Over Hulton has also been earmarked for expansion in the latest draft of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.

The bulk of the proposed development near junction 6 of the M61 could be approved in principle at the town hall tomorrow with further details to be revealed in a future application.

But plans to upgrade local highway infrastructure and create a new access road for the proposed development could be given full planning permission by the committee.

Harworth Group has said that the development is expected to generation around £100m per year for the Bolton economy.

If plans are approved, as officers have recommended, the development is expected to be built in five to ten years with jobs created in the next two year after planning consent is granted.

The planning committee will meet on Thursday in the town hall at 1pm.
