A new bike hire service has been introduced to the Gortin Glen Forest Park in the latest addition to the area.
A recent surge in visitors has seen the Gortin Glen jump to the most visited attraction in Co Tyrone, with new play facilities and mountain bike trails contributing to its appeal.
The area is also set to benefit from the opening of a cafe in the coming weeks.
The new Trailhead service will include the hire of mountain bikes as well as all the necessary protective equipment to go along with them.
Mountain biking company Campbase Adventures has been commissioned to deliver the services, which will be available on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Campbase’s Adam Lowry said: “We are delighted to start providing Trailhead services at Gortin Glen Forest Park. Unlike other forest parks, this forest has a number of different activities available and with the help of Campbase Adventures these activities give people of all ages the opportunity to try.
“Having only recently become involved in the mountain biking community, I know first-hand how daunting it can be to try for the first time, and that is exactly why we are so happy to be working with council to improve accessibility to these activities.”
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Chair Errol Thompson said the move was part of a sustained effort to develop services at the forest park.
Cllr Thompson said: “Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to ensuring that our district is a great place to live, work and visit and has been working with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, to redevelop Gortin Glen Forest Park into a must visit family destination.
“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recognises the importance of providing high quality outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors to get and stay active and I am delighted that we are partnering with Campbase Adventures to deliver this new Trailhead service at Gortin Glen Forest Park.”
“It will open up our award-winning trails to even more users.”
