New BBC Doctor Foster spin-off series filmed in Manchester drops trailer

Manchester has long been the backdrop of TV productions - and this latest BBC series is no different.

Life, a spin-off of popular drama series Doctor Foster, has been shot in and around the city - see if you can spot locations yourself now the trailer has been released.

The six-part drama follows the intertwining stories of residents who live in a large house divided into four flats, exploring birth, death, love, loss and everything in between.

As each of the four stories unfold, they tell a larger story about what happens when we step out of our personal space and take a closer look into other people’s lives.

It will see Victoria Hamilton reprise her role from Doctor Foster - but now she goes by the name of Belle, not Anna - where she is seeking to rebuild a new life.

Gail and Henry played by Alison Steadman and Peter Davidson (BBC)

She plays pilates teacher Belle whose neatly ordered life is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of her chaotic 15 year-old niece Maya (Erin Kellyman).

Andy played by Calvin Demba (BBC)

But that’s not all - Adam James will appear later on in the series, reprising his Doctor Foster role as Belle’s now ex-husband Neil.

The other characters include Gail (Alison Steadman), wife of Henry (Peter Davison), who is about to celebrate her 70th birthday when a chance encounter throws her whole life into question.

Elsewhere David (Adrian Lester) is happily married to Kelly (Rachael Stirling), but is conflicted by temptation when he meets the impulsive Saira (Saira Choudhry) on holiday.

And heavily pregnant Hannah (Melissa Johns) - who is happily coupled up with safe and stable Liam (Joshua James) - has her plans upended by the return of Andy (Calvin Demba), with whom she had a passionate one-night stand nine months previously.

The six-part drama also features Elaine Paige and Susannah Fielding in key roles.

While the Beeb has not announced a release date, Life is scheduled for autumn, so we won’t have too long to wait.
