New base for local charity

A former bank has become home to a popular West Lothian charity.

The 50+ Network will now be based at the former Santander branch at George Street in Bathgate.

West Lothian Council has granted permission for the charity to use the premises as a social hub.

The West Lothian 50+ Network facilitate a wide range of activities with the aim of keeping active in mind and body whilst providing the opportunities to meet new people and combat loneliness and social isolation in people aged 50 and over.

The application was granted unconditionally.

Craig McCorriston, head of planning, economic development and regeneration said: “The proposal complies with the provisions of the policy DES1 (Design Principles) and policy TCR 1 (Town Centres) within the local development plan and there are no other material considerations which would outweigh this conclusion.”
