A barrier system is to be erected at the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.
DUP MLA for East Derry Maurice Bradley said this has been an ongoing issue for some time as he welcomed the move.
Mr Bradley thanked the PSNI and the owners of the Riverside Retail Park for their determination to resolve anti-social driving in and around the retail park area.
“Residents in the area have been plagued by revving engines and screeching wheels into the early hours of the morning,” he said.
“This has impacted on their sleep and general well being.”
Mr Bradley added: “In the last year meetings with residents, PSNI and owners of the Retail Park have been ongoing and I am pleased that a barrier system is to be erected to prevent groups of young people gathering in cars.
“I would like to thank all those involved for their determination to find a resolution,” he said.
Late last year it emerged that Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon was exploring using camera technology to tackle increased complaints over ‘boy racers’ across the Causeway Coast and Glens borough.
Ms Mallon's department confirmed officials were monitoring trials of ‘noise camera technology’ in Britain and “will explore the results and any policy outcomes that are developed from it.”
Noise pollution from speeding cars was keeping people awake living close to the Coleraine retail park, according to the SDLP Assembly member Cara Hunter.
Complaints from neighbours prompted her to write to Minster Mallon.
