New bar and kitchen Velvet Sparrow opens in Glasgow south side

Southsiders have welcomed a new bar and kitchen with the arrival of Velvet Sparrow in Cathcart.

Work has been underway for months to convert the former vegan restaurant The Now on Clarkston Road, just by Cathcart train station, in the south side of Glasgow.

Velvet Sparrow shares the same owner as the legendary Barry's convenience store across the road, which has a cult following on account of its extensive world beer selection.

Brightly decorated, the bar itself features a beautiful, colourful wall mural of a 'velvet sparrow'.

And alongside an extensive selection of beers at the new bar - including the likes of Peroni, Grolsch and Asahi on tap - is a food menu featuring the likes of burgers, loaded fries, pub classics such as mac and cheese and fish and chips.

There's also a selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free food, while Velvet Sparrow will serve up teas and coffees throughout the day.

Open 12pm til late, the new bar is located at 3 Clarkston Road and customers have already shared rave reviews after visiting at the weekend.
