New city dog park ready for use next month

Dog lovers in Bangkok's Bang Khae district will be able to enjoy the outdoors with their pets next month when a new public park with a dog-friendly area is due to open.
The new city park located in Phetkasem 69 and covering 70 rai will be completed next month and comes equipped with an area for dogs to roam and enjoy activities, according to a Daily News report.
Bangkok deputy governor Jakkapan Phiewngam said the Phetkasem 69 park is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) attempt to address growing calls for pets to be allowed in public parks.
The BMA plans to include a dog-friendly area in every new city park, and next in line is a park in Bang Khunthian district.
Mr Jakkapan said the BMA cannot allow park-goers to take their dogs to public parks which do not have a facility for the animals, out of concern for other park users. City parks are used by people of all groups and some of them do not want dogs around.
The BMA opened the first dog-friendly park at Vachara Phirom Park in Bang Khen district in October 2015. It is visited by 300-500 dog lovers most weekdays and up to 1,500 on weekends.
The new dog park is 4.6 rai in size and has six zones, including a 340-metre track for owners and their dogs to exercise together and a leash-free area for dogs to run free and play fetch.
To be allowed in, dogs must be at least three months old, have rabies vaccination certificates and implanted ID microchips. Aggressive dogs must be kept on a leash at all time.
