New Ayrshire pub in nod to Johnnie Walker with its name and logo

A pub giant's first Ayrshire venue is set to give a nod to Johnnie Walker.

The Kilmarnock bar will be called the Standing Man — a tribute to the whisky giant's 'Striding Man' slogan famous across the globe.

The pub's logo, a man with a cane, top-hat and tails, also bears a striking resemblance to the renowned Johnnie Walker symbol.

The sizeable town centre boozer is currently being renovated on Portland Street, adjoined to the iconic B-listed former Royal Bank of Scotland building at Kilmarnock cross.

No opening date has been given for the watering hole but pub chain Amber Tavern is behind the ambitious project.

The firm currently operates 154 pubs across the UK with only four of those in Scotland.

Sky Sports and BT Sport livery adorns the outside of the venue, suggesting the boozer will have a heavy focus on sports coverage with no less than 11 televisions on the premises.

East Ayrshire Council approved plans for the former charity shop and one-time mini-mart to be converted into a public house in November 2019.

The upstairs of the bar will house male and female toilets and a two-bedroom property for the manager complete with open-plan lounge and kitchen and a nearby office.

Documents lodged with the local authority show that there are no plans to serve food at the pub.

The bar's Facebook page states they're also looking for staff.

Part-time workers and a cleaner are being sought with the firm looking for "reliable, motivated, trustworthy and hard-working" individuals.
