New Audi E-Tron GT Base Model Trades Power For More Range

  • The base-spec Audi E-Tron GT Quattro gets the same battery pack as its more powerful siblings.
  • Despite its entry-level status, it still carries a six-figure price tag.
  • Thanks to its lower weight, it has the longest driving range of all the E-Tron GT versions.

This is the new Audi E-Tron GT Quattro, the cheapest version of the four-door electric grand tourer. As you might imagine, a smaller price tag inevitably leads to some drawbacks, but in the case of the new base-spec E-Tron GT, things are not as bad as they might seem.

With a starting price of $121,000 (€108,900) in Europe, the newly-introduced version gets motivation from a dual-motor powertrain with a maximum output of 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts) with launch control, enough for a zero to 62 miles per hour (zero to 100 kilometers per hour) sprint in 4.0 seconds.

By comparison, the S E-Tron GT gets a maximum output of 670 hp (435 kW), while the RS E-Tron GT ups that figure to 844 hp (630 kW). The top-spec RS E-Tron GT Performance goes even further, with a maximum output of 912 hp (680 kW), enough to get to 62 mph from a standstill in 2.5 seconds. That said, it also starts at $178,500 (€160,500), so you get what you pay for.

It’s worth mentioning that while the more expensive versions of the electric GT offer a higher maximum output, all of the trims have the same 218 hp (163 kW) continuous output. Additionally, all models have a limited top speed of 152 mph (250 kph).

The 97-kilowatt-hour (usable) battery is also shared across the lineup. But the new E-Tron GT Quattro is the lightest of the bunch, tipping the scales at 5,026 pounds (2,280 kilograms). That's a savings of 66 lbs (30 kg) over the S version, which gives it more range. According to Audi, the base E-Tron GT can go between 357 and 386 miles (575 to 622 km) on a full charge per the WLTP cycle.

The maximum charging power is 320 kW, with Audi claiming it can gain roughly 177 miles (285 km) of range in just ten minutes on DC fast charging. Going from 10% to 80% top-up can take as little as 18 minutes, depending on charging speed.

Inside, the base EV gets a pair of displays—one for the digital instrument cluster and one for the infotainment screen. There’s a 14.3 cubic feet (405 liters) trunk and a 2.7 cubic feet (77 liters) front trunk.

The Audi E-Tron GT Quattro is available now in Europe, with more markets to be added later.
