New artwork in Netherfield 'brightens up the area', residents say

Residents are incredibly happy with the new art design on the bridge at Chaworth Road, near the East Midlands Railway.

The designs were made by local school children and artist Lionel Stanhope created the artwork.

The art was unveiled by the Mayor of Gedling, Councillor Meredith Lawrence, recently.

Lorraine Cardall, 63, who has lived in the area since 1977, thinks it's a fantastic idea.

She said: "I love it, it brightens up the area and really cheers you up.

"It's a good idea and I think it's sweet that the kids got involved."

Julie Ball, 54, said she agreed with Lorraine as she thinks it's "absolutely lovely".

She said: "It looks really good.

"I'm so glad the school was involved as it looks brilliant."

Another resident, Raymond Fox, 73, hopes it won't be ruined, adding: "I've had enough of the graffiti, it's really good and something local.

"I hope it remains this way, something for the kids to be proud about."

Varity Malinski, 39, is also concerned about the artwork being trashed.

She said: "It brightens up the bridge and I don't want people to graffiti it, I really hope they don't.

"Knowing the kids designed it, it's lovely.

"Makes the area more appealing."
