New artisan pizza restaurant to open in Cathcart

A new artisan pizza restaurant is coming to Glasgow's south side this summer.

Canotto will open its doors on June 20 in Cathcart. Located next to Cathcart Station, the restaurant is the brain child of local Dom Morton.

Dom, who has worked at an engineering company for years, was inspired to take the plunge and start his own restaurant after spending a decade perfecting his pizza-making skills.

Speaking to Glasgow Live , he said: "It all started with a tiny set up in my back garden. I've been practicing pizza making for 10 years now and had wanted to open my own place for a long time now.

"My wife Gillian has come on board as well so we'll be running Canotto together.

"I wanted to make authentic Roman pizzas - so it's a little bit different from Neapolitan pizza. We'll also be serving up square slices, so there's a bit of New York inspiration as well in that."

Dom's plans for Canotto were put on hold following the lockdown restrictions, and he has said he is anxious to get his new business up and running.

He said: "It was supposed to be opening before lockdown happened, but obviously that changed our timeline.

"When we open, we'll have social distancing in place and will be organising for delivery as soon as possible.

"There's a bit of a gap in Cathcart for good, artisan pizzas - I think it's something that would be great for the area. I'm just really excited to get going now."
