
The opening launch of Edward Milan's solo exhibition Panorama at Art Systems Wickham starts at 3pm on Saturday, August 22. The artist will also be in the gallery from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday. Milan talks about art-making in terms of "joy" he says "Joy comes from within; it is an internal view; it is an attitude of the heart or spirit." Through these new works Milan reminds us not to lose sight of the everyday, the commonplace and the hand-made.
View Wishbones by Rosie Turner at Onwards Studio and Gallery on Saturday, August 22, from 10am to 4pm. Turner uses her gently black and white illustrative style to lure us into the 'Australian Gothic' psyche. Where forbidden anxieties around religion, sex and death are exposed and emblematic Australian animals are formed into ritual-like imagery. Turner has managed to create a unique occult-style that is becoming identifiably her own.
John Earle and daughter, Miranda Earle are exhibiting together at the Hunter Wetlands Centre until September 11. John Earle has been painting the marshes, the swamplands, the birdlife and capturing the tranquil and important ecology of the wetlands environment. Miranda Earle is exhibiting her highly detailed and layered, multi hand-printed artworks alongside her father's paintings.
Same but Different at The Owen Collective is an exhibition of works by local artists that identify as LGBTIQ, originally planned to be part of the 2020 Newcastle Pride Festival, these artists have come together to present an exhibition that explores identity and understanding. Includes Maree Azzopardi, Chris Capper, Drew Connor Holland, Lucas Grogan, Randa Magdi, Ken O'Regan, Rod Pattenden, Luke Thurgate, Eila Vinwynn and John Witte.
Deep Revolt, a new show featuring the works of Arlo Mountford, opens on Saturday, August 22, at Maitland Regional Art Gallery. This survey exhibition reveals the expanse of Mountford's practice from video, sculpture and drawing.
