New Ardrossan boss Gavin Friels admits management lure was 'too much'

Gavin Friels admits the lure of management was "too much" in the wake of him being appointed as the new Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss.

Friels leaves his role as Chris Strain's assistant at Kilwinning Rangers to head to Winton Park as No 1, replacing Stevie Wilson who departed recently.

Chris McGowan will join him as No 2 and Jamie Houston has taken a coaching role at the West of Scotland League Conference C club.

A statement from Friels on Kilwinning's social media pages read: "To everyone at the Buffs, I'd like to thank you all for making myself and family feel welcome every time we came to the park.

"I've loved every minute of my time at the club, a fantastic group of hard-working people and excellent fans.

"I'd like to wish the club all the best for the future and every bit of success that comes their way will be thoroughly deserved.

"I'd like to thank Chris [Strain] for giving me the opportunity to come in.

"I've had a great insight into his coaching knowledge and is second to none tactically, and he gave me a lesson in hard-work.

"A terrific bunch of players who I am sure can take the club where they need to be.

"As I've said to players it was a very difficult decision but the lure of getting back into management was just too much."
