New app launched in East Kilbride to pay for council-run on-street parking charges

A new, flexible, convenient way to pay for council-managed parking is to be launched in East Kilbride town centre.

RingGo will be available to use across the area from Monday, December 7 and will be introduced at the same time as the reintroduction of on-street parking charges.

RingGo provides users with a more convenient alternative to using cards or cash at the ticket machines and allows users to extend their stay without returning to their vehicle.

It also means that in these times of a global pandemic, customers do not need to touch the machines.

On-street parking means the pay-and-display bays found on streets in and around town centres and charges at these locations will be reintroduced from Monday, December 7.

Charges remain suspended in council car parks at this time, however, private car park operators may still be charging.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “As our town centres look to recover, we need to ensure that available parking spaces have a regular turnover to allow people to visit shops, premises and workplaces more easily.

“The reintroduction of on-street charges only strikes an appropriate balance at this time.

“The launch of the RingGo app is a great new option for users, allowing them to park for a chosen period of time, but if for whatever reason they realise they are not going to be back when they first anticipated, it is easy to just extend their stay using the app.

“I am sure those who visit our town centres will appreciate the increased flexibility the app will bring.”

Details on how to use the RingGo app will be on the sides of the ticket machines in the town centres.

Anyone visiting the town centres can still use the machines in the traditional way if they prefer.
