A new report on drivers’ habits found that Americans need to get off their phones while they are behind the wheel.

The findings were based on data collected by the EverDrive app,

The app uses the sensors inside your phone such as GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope and even whether the screen is on or off, to determine driving habits.

According to the CNET.com website, the app collected 781 million miles worth of driving data in 2017. The analysis of this data led to findings that are both interesting and a little disconcerting.

According to the data, the worst and most dangerous driving habit Americans have is speeding.

Drivers in the Northeast are, somewhat surprisingly, the most egregious speeders, with 48 percent of them driving at a high speed.

The next most unsafe habit is being on the phone, with 37 percent of Americans using their smartphones while driving even though all but two states have adopted phone-use laws.

Meanwhile, drivers aged 18-20 are 47 percent more likely to use their phones while driving than older drivers.

Another interesting finding is that men and women are not dramatically different in their unsafe driving habits.

Men are slightly more guilty of speeding, while women use their phones a little more, but the discrepancy is less than 5 percent for both. Women brake hard on more trips, while men are a little more aggressive with the steering wheel.
