New and improved Lidl reopens in Maryhill this week creating 10 new jobs

Lidl has confirmed that its refurbished Maryhill supermarket will open for the first time this week following a full modernisation and extension.

Its Hopehill Road store will open its doors at 8am on Thursday (October 28) with its opening hours being between 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am - 8pm on Sunday.

The chain, which opened its first store in Germany back in 1973, now has over 860 stores across the UK and is set to promise a variety of discounted items during its first opening week. The store also boasts a large sales area of 1417m² and facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets, self-checkouts and car parking.

The extension comes as part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn expansion and regeneration plans for 2021/22 across the UK which is said to create up to 10 new jobs for the local community.

Ahead of the Scottish Government’s Deposit Return Scheme rollout in July 2022, the store will also have a money-back recycling station.

The new store will be providing surplus produce and customer donations to local charities, including The Everlasting Foodbank. This is delivered through Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme, which is run in partnership with Neighbourly and connects Lidl stores up and down the country with local charities, foodbanks, community cafes and kitchens, putting quality food surplus to good use every day.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property Gordon Rafferty, commented: "We would like to thank all those who have played a part in the refurbishment and extension of the Lidl store in Maryhill. It’s fantastic to be able to offer people a superb shopping experience, while also creating more jobs. The unit has been transformed and will better serve the community through job opportunities and an enhanced customer experience for even more shoppers.

"The inclusion of our ground-breaking Deposit Return Scheme facilities is just one feature in the store that we’re extremely proud of. We look forward to welcoming Maryhill residents through our doors."
