New Aldi supermarket in Edwalton set to open in days

The opening date has been announced for the new Aldi store in Edwalton.

The new store is located in Landmere Lane in Edwalton just off Wheatcroft Island, near to hundreds of new-build homes.

The store will welcome customers for the very first time on Thursday, October 8.

The budget German supermarket chain says 35 jobs have also been created in the store. 10 more job opportunities have also been promised by Aldi as part of its investment in local communities across the UK

Aldi store manager Dan Brown said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the first Aldi store here in Edwalton.

"It’s set to be a great day and it’ll be lovely to welcome our new customers into store and provide them with access to affordable, high quality food.”

Councillor Jonathan Wheeler, who represents West Bridgford South for Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "I think it's absolutely a great thing for the area.

"It's good for the extra jobs it creates, it gives more choice to customers in the Edwalton and West Bridgford area. Before now the major supermarkets nearby were Asda and Morrisons in Gamston, so this is another option for people to use.

"The new estate will have a supermarket very close-by, which is good.

"It's an exciting time for the area, what with all the new developments around there.

"A supermarket has been promised there for a while, there was supposed to be a Waitrose at first, but now it's going to be an Aldi and there is a Waitrose which is now open at the petrol station in Tollerton."

A Waitrose was initially planned to be installed nearby, on Melton Lane just off Wheatcroft roundabout, before proposals were scrapped in 2018.

Plans are now in place to install a Porsche showroom in its place.

The Aldi store will be open from 8am until 10pm from Monday until Saturday, and from 10am until 4pm on Sundays.

Aldi is calling on local charities and food banks in Edwalton to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.
