New Aldi stores for five Leeds areas as part of huge expansion plans

Booming budget supermarket chain Aldi says it plans to open 100 new stores in the UK in the next two years.

And the German giant is searching for sites in five areas of Leeds as part of its £1.3bn plan.

Aldi, which currently has 920 UK supermarkets, says it is looking for sites big enough to accommodate a 1,858 sq m store with approximately 100 parking spaces.

A site next to a prominent main road with good visibility and access is preferable, Aldi said today (Thursday).

Aldi will be expanding existing distribution centres and building new ones.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “We’re continuing to gain even more customers – with over 60% of UK households shopping with Aldi in the last year.
