New Aldi store on Hucknall Road in Top Valley to open next year

A long-awaited Aldi supermarket is due to open next year in Top Valley.

The store will open in Hucknall Road, near the Bulwell Forest Recreation Ground.

An Aldi spokesman said the firm looked forward to the shop opening next summer, "creating up to 30 new jobs and making it even easier for residents to shop and save closer to home”.

The store has been in the pipeline for several years and minor site changes were approved by Nottingham City Council planners in June.

It was previously reported the project had been delayed after a deep water well was found at the site.

Business leaders backed the prospect of new jobs.

Scott Knowles, chief executive at East Midlands Chamber, said: “Consultation and dialogue with the local community on such matters is always important but, on the face of it, any project which creates jobs and additional local services to complement those already available is to be welcomed.

"At a time when businesses are being hampered by long-term uncertainty, it is encouraging to see an appetite for new commercial ventures, and the subsequent positive impact these can have on the local economy.”
