New Aladdin film footage gives away Will Smith's second role in Disney remake

We have news - come closer, closer, too close!

Aladdin will soon be in cinemas, it's set for release in May, which means we're starting to see more footage.

The latest look at the live-action remake comes in the form of a TV spot showing us new footage and a few plot clues.

The main one is the new scenes of Will Smith 's Genie as well as a few more shots of the musical scenes.

In the animated film Robin Williams doubled up with his roles playing the market trader who begins narrating the story.

It seems Will Smith may just do the same.

"I think it's time I tell you the story of Aladdin, the princess and the lamp," narrates Will Smith's Genie in a similar fashion to the market trader's lines.

The TV spot also gives us a few more snippets of the blue Genie, and while fans were quick to mock Smith's look, they seem to now have come around.

It does help that Smith's brand of humour was evident in the footage that followed.

“The great thing about the role of the Genie is that it’s essentially a hyperbole for who that individual actor is, so it’s a wonderful platform and tapestry for an actor to fill his boots on,” Guy Ritchie said.

“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying,” Smith said. “The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character. [He] infused the character with a timeless version of himself. I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was an homage to Robin Williams but was musically different. Just the flavor of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane, versus trying to compete.”

“I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world,” Smith added. “There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history.”

Aladdin is released in cinemas on May 24, 2019.
