New aerial footage shows progress on Gedling Access Road

New aerial footage has been released showing progress made on the eagerly anticipated Gedling Access Road.

The footage, shot on a drone, has been released by Nottinghamshire County Council to show how construction on the new bypass is going.

Work began in January of last year and is set to be completed later this year.

A spokesperson for the council said in a June update: "Utility diversion works continue at Mapperley Plains. High and low voltage electricity cables now diverted by WPD. Telecommunications cable diversion ongoing by BT.

"Earthworks and drainage continued in the areas adjacent to Gedling House Woods and past Gedling Wood Farm to the area where the main cutting has previously been completed."

It comes after a new roundabout was constructed in April of this year and a new highway embankment was erected in May.

The new 3.8km single carriageway road will provide a link between the B684 Mapperley Plains and the A612 Trent Valley Road/Nottingham Road once completed.

Nottinghamshire County Council says the £40 million road is set to open in the Autumn, featuring three new roundabouts and 3.8km of asphalt.

A number of roads nearby have been closed for roadworks as part of the project, such as nearby Lambley Lane.
