New ads warn of Covid danger in coffee, exercise, shopping and friends

The Government has launched a new ad campaign using dramatic language to warn of the dangers of everyday activities in catching and spreading coronavirus.

The adverts, which have already been shared on social media by the UK Government, warn of the risks of everything from shopping and getting a coffee to taking the train and 'catch-ups' with friends.

A national campaign has been unveiled as the Government eyes tougher restrictions amid a surge in infections.

One of the slogans being used is “Don’t let a coffee cost lives”, it is believed.

Another message in the campaign is “Covid takes the train too”.

A third ad warns people: "Catch-ups cost lives"

The move is aimed at presenting a stark message to the public to try to ensure compliance with tough lockdown measures as Britain battles mutant strains of the disease.

The campaign comes as the number of outbreaks of Covid-19 reported to Public Health England (PHE) surveillance teams in the seven days to January 10 from food outlets and restaurants was 18, up from 11 the previous week.

However, this compares with 977 suspected outbreaks in care homes in the same period.

The data does not show a full picture of where coronavirus transmission is happening.

The most up-to-date PHE data shows 243 suspected outbreaks in workplaces in the same time frame, 78 in hospitals, and 31 in educational settings such as schools.

On Sunday Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said he hoped every adult in the country would have been offered a first dose of the vaccine by September.

And he said lockdown rules should start to be lifted in March with a return to tiered rules.

But the Government is also reported to be considering tougher riles in lockdown - such as banning families from shopping together.

It comes as the NHS says a new Covid patient is being admitted every 30 seconds.
