New ADO Coupe sports car to be built in Scotland

THIS is the ADO Coupe – the latest in a long line of sports cars to be built in Scotland.

Production is set to begin in Dundee using an MG Midget as the base with a curvy fibreglass body. It’s aimed at drivers who want a fast, fun, retro car for the road or track.

Reviving and updating a design originally considered by the British Motor Corporation in the 1960s, the ADO is the work of Dundee enthusiast Douglas Anderson.

He’s worked with engine specialist Clark Dawson and stylist Richard Oakes, and the car takes its name from the trio’s surnames.

Anderson explained: “I wanted to be a car designer when I was young but there were no opportunities.”

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but customers will be able to choose their own specification of engine, suspension and interior trim.
