New Abbey Primary pupils receive gold RSPB award for nature efforts

The pupils in Primary 1-3 at New Abbey have recently received a Gold Award from the RSPB for their part in helping and experiencing nature.

To achieve the awards (Bronze, Silver and Gold) they had to complete 18 out of 24 activities.

Some of those they completed included: creating a mini pond, making bee hotels (for solitary bees), building a bug hotel, making a habitat heap (log pile), helping birds – bird bath and different types of feeders, building a hedgehog house, planting trees, identifying trees, planting a wildflower bed, identifying flowers in the grounds, making a toad hole, composting bins, pond dipping, taking part in a mini beast safari (and identifying mini beasts), experiencing nature by using their senses then discussing the findings and sharing their experiences on Facebook and Class Dojo pages.
