Plans to modernise and expand the Lidl store in Omagh to the tune of £4m have been given the green light by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The site, which will take up more than 4,000 square metres of space at its James Street location, is expected to bring 15 retail jobs as well as 200 construction jobs.
Approval from the council to commence construction at the site was given this week, following a consultation with local community groups in the Co Tyrone town.
A neighbouring pub and private property will be demolished to make way for the expanded store, which is located at the busy junction between James Street and the Dromore Road.
The new look store will have a 113 space car park as well as electric vehicle charging stations, with work expected to be complete by August 2022.
“Since first opening in Omagh in 2003, Lidl Northern Ireland has played a key role serving and supporting the local community,” Chris Speers, Regional Property Executive for Lidl Northern Ireland said.
“I’m delighted to confirm that we have received full approval from the Council to proceed with our expansion plans.
“Following a previous renovation and refurbishment in 2013, Omagh is now set to benefit from an enhanced new store as part of our dedicated project to rejuvenate older existing stores.

Lidl confirmed an investment of more than £26 million into the North West earlier this year, with the first of three new stores opening in July at Buncrana Road in Derry.
