A lower speed limit is to be trialled along a stretch of the Southern Distributor Road in Newport.
Newport City Council will introduce a temporary speed limit on two sections of the Southern Distributor Road (A48) as part of an experimental order to test road safety.
It comes after concerns were raised by councillors and community groups following the death of 16-year-old cyclist Joshua Fletcher, who died following a crash on the SDR outside the Blaina Wharf pub in October.
A 14-year-old boy was also treated for minor injuries following a crash on the same stretch of road two weeks later.
The new temporary measures will begin on Monday, February 22, and will see a 40mph speed limit introduced in both directions from the junction with the Transporter Bridge to the junction with Usk Way (A4042).
A 30mph limit will apply in both directions from the junction with Usk Way and along the SDR over City Bridge.
The temporary speed limit will apply for an 18-month period. The measures will be reviewed by Newport City Council.

On October 16, Joshua Fletcher was cycling home when he was involved in a crash with a car at a set of pedestrian traffic lights a short distance from the Blaina Wharf pub.
The incident prompted an outpouring of grief among the community in Newport, and a fundraising page set up to help the family with funeral costs attracted several thousand pounds in donations.
Following the tragic incident in October, Joshua Fletcher's family set up a petition calling for changes to safety measures on the road.
That petition has attracted more than 1,200 signatures since it was set up.
In November, council leader Jane Mudd said she would be asking for a review to be carried out.
Cllr Mudd said the authority would implement a temporary speed limit while awaiting further findings from the police and the coroner.
Cllr Kevin Whitehead, Independent councillor for the Bettws ward, said: "This represents an acknowledgement that there is a problem there and it is a troublesome hot spot.
"Only time will tell if it's a speed issue or if a speed limit change will make a figurative impact.
"There seems to be a hell of a lot of lights there and you do get a lot of people light jumping there.
"It's no bad thing to do, it's an acknowledgement and let's see how it pans out."
