New £2m housing scheme approved for allotment site in Annesley

A new £2 million affordable housing scheme has been approved for an unused allotment site.

The scheme got the go-ahead at an Ashfield District Council meeting on Tuesday, June 29.

12 two-bedroom bungalows will be built at the site on Wesley Street in Annesley.

Subject to planning permission being granted, the development will see the bungalow added to Ashfield District Council’s housing stock.

The council has secured some funding towards the project and aim to deliver them in an environmentally friendly way.

Cllr Tom Hollis, Cabinet Member for Housing at Ashfield District Council, said “I am pleased that we are now able to start moving this development forward. We also hope to secure some funding from Homes England, that will assist in building these much in demand bungalows to an environmentally friendly near net carbon zero standard.

“The land isn’t currently used and as part of our commitment to building new affordable rent housing, we are utilising unused, council owned land across the District.”

Builds are currently underway at The Beeches, The Poplars, Stoney Street car park and Davies Avenue in Sutton.

There is also a £2.4m scheme across several former garage sites in Hucknall - these developments will see 46 new homes added to the district.

Cllr Hollis continued: “We have several builds underway and more in the pipeline.

"We know how high the demand is for affordable rent housing and are committed to increasing the number of family homes and bungalows available in the District.”
