Neville Southall has issued a firm defence of Jordan Pickford after the Everton goalkeeper was once again subject to criticism.
Pickford picked up criticism from all quarters for his performance in the Premier League victory over Brighton on Saturday afternoon - a game which the Blues eventually emerged 4-2 winners from.
The England No.1 was at fault for the Seagulls’ first goal at Goodison Park, with his mistake coming just weeks after he made two errors against Fleetwood Town in the League Cup.
Pickford's form is a far cry from his impressive displays in the early parts of his Everton career and the ones that helped England advance to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.
While the pressure on the former Sunderland man was further increased yesterday after the Blues signed Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen on loan for the remainder of the season.
But Southall believes not only are Pickford’s mistakes not 'killing' Everton at this moment in time, but he will be 'flying' once he rediscovers his form.
"I think he's had probably three bad minutes in six months - if [that],” the former Wales international told Sky Sports News.
"His mistakes aren't killing us - I think that's a good thing - and I think once he finds his form, we'll be flying.
"There'll be a time when we have that little bump in the road and maybe we'll have to rely on him. Maybe people will have to change their opinions.
"But I do think, if Mr Ancelotti wants to play you, you must be half-decent. If his job was on the line, there'd be a taxi outside Goodison tomorrow."
