Neve Campbell To Return In 'Scream 7' With Original Writer

The Scream franchise is known for its meta-horror slasher theme.

The Scream franchise, known for its meta-horror slasher theme, has managed to captivate audiences over the years with its unique approach to horror storytelling. While the series has steered clear of supernatural elements involving its central villain, Ghostface, recent installments have hinted at a departure from the norm.

In the latest movie, the return of Skeet Ulrich's character, Billy Loomis, in a vision seen by his daughter, played by Melissa Barrera, introduced a touch of the otherworldly. However, Ulrich himself expressed reservations about fully embracing the supernatural for Ghostface, citing the importance of maintaining the franchise's core appeal of relatable terror.

The sixth installment of the franchise saw a mix of old and new characters, with Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott alongside fresh faces like Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Despite initial setbacks, the movie managed to win over fans with its shift to a new setting in New York City.

While plans for a seventh movie initially faced obstacles, the return of Campbell as Sidney and the involvement of original Scream writer Kevin Williamson as director have reignited excitement for the future of the franchise. Williamson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue the Scream legacy and bring back the iconic character of Sidney Prescott.

With filming for Scream 7 set to commence later this year, fans can look forward to another thrilling chapter in the saga. In the meantime, all six previous Scream movies are available for streaming on various platforms, including Max, Peacock, and Paramount+.
