Carson Strong Among The Top QBs in the upcoming 2022 Draft, per PFF

The 2022 NFL Draft is just four weeks away and NFL teams are making final preparations for their draft strategy. NFL teams will be looking to target players who could turn their organization into champions.

Usually, NFL teams look to the quarterback position to find that player to turn around the fortunes of a team. Although this year’s set of quarterbacks are not as highly touted as last year’s, there is still talent at that position that could be the franchise changer.

Former Nevada quarterback Carson Strong is one of the quarterbacks in this 2022 draft class that could be that type of quarterback to lead a franchise to glory. Most of the mock drafts have Strong projected to go between the second and fourth round due to a poor combine showing, lack of mobility and concerns about his knee injury.

Sam Monson who writes for Pro Football Focus is aware of the concerns about Strong but likes his potential. Monson posted his top quarterback prospects in the 2022 NFL draft and he has the former Wolf Pack quarterback fourth in his rankings.

According to Monson’s rankings, Strong is up there with potential first picks Malik Willis of Liberty, Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati and Kenny Pickett of Pittsburgh. In Monson’s rankings Strong is ahead of Power 5 conference quarterbacks Sam Howell of North Carolina and Matt Corral of Ole Miss.

Monsoon said of Strong that while the injury to his knee is a reason why teams are staying away from him, Strong does have the arms strength, accuracy and touch to be one of the top quarterback prospects in this 2022 rookie class.

Here is what Monson also had to say about Strong:

“In a league that has trended toward mobile, athletic passers, Strong is a throwback to the immobile pocket passer. If he’s going to succeed, it’s by maneuvering within the pocket rather than by making plays outside of it or on the run. He was careful with the football throughout his college career and has the arm to make plenty of big plays, and we have seen enough evidence that there is still room for success in today’s NFL for quarterbacks who can’t add value with their athleticism.”

Monson is a believer in Strong and what he can do at the pro level. The concern for Strong is what Monson said in his assessment of Strong: knee injury concerns and a lack of mobility is what is making NFL teams weary of using a high pick on him. Which is the reason why a lot of mock drafts have Strong being drafted on Day 2 or 2 of the draft.

All that being said, Strong does have the arm talent that is just as good as the QB prospects projected to go ahead of him. While Strong lacks the mobility of prospects such as Willis, Howell or Ridder, Strong has the arm strength and the precision to make NFL throws and for teams that are needing a quarterback, Strong should be a QB that those teams should highly consider.
