Nevada earthquake: 6.5 magnitude quake strikes US state

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake has hit Nevada, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake struck 35-miles west-northwest of Tonopah, Nevada, just after 4am (PDT) on Friday.

There have been at least four aftershocks reported.

According to the USGS, the tremor struck east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range near the Nevada-Californian border.

Some Californian residents have said on social media they also felt the movement.

The USGS had previously said the earthquake on Friday was at 6.4 magnitude before the latest revision.

The agency said on Twitter the area "will continue to experience more earthquakes than usual. Some may be larger, but many smaller."
