Jazz Johnson’s Shooting Was Sweet Music To The Wolf Pack As They Defeated Air Force 90-78
With a big time performance by Jazz Johnson and an excellent night shooting the three point shot, the Nevada Wolf Pack bounced back from a tough loss to Utah State on Saturday with a impressive 90-78 victory over Air Force on Tuesday night in Colorado Springs.
The Wolf Pack shot 50 percent from the three point line (13-26) and 52 percent from the field as they took care of business with the win over the Falcons and the win keeps their hopes of winning a share of the Mountain West regular season title alive.
Earlier tonight, Utah State needed overtime to defeat Colorado State in order for the Aggies to win a share of the Mountain West regular season title which means the Wolf Pack need to defeat San Diego State on Saturday to claim their share of the Mountain West title.
The Wolf Pack can thank Jazz Johnson and his hot shooting for keeping the Wolf Pack in the race for the Mountain West title. The junior transfer from Portland tallied a career high in points with 27 as he made seven threes tonight against the Falcons. For the game overall Johnson went 9 for 13 from the field.
Johnson was not alone in the scoring department as four Wolf Pack players scored in double figures. Cody Martin scored 18 points while Caleb chipped in with 16 points this evening. Tre’Shawn Thurman contributed with 11 points and Jordan Caroline tallied another double double with ten points and ten rebounds. Caroline showed no significant issues with his hand just three nights after punching a glass protected fire extinguisher after the loss at Utah State.
While the Wolf Pack offense was firing on all cylinders, the Wolf Pack defense did have trouble with the Falcons offense. Air Force shot 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from the three point line as the Falcons offense kept them in the game but Air Force could not stop the red hot Wolf Pack offense.
Ryan Swan led the Falcons in scoring tonight with 21 points while freshman guard AJ Walker scored 18 points for Air Force. Lavelle Scottie chipped in with 13 points and ten rebounds for the Falcons.
Nevada returns to Reno for their final game of the regular season when they will host the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday. It will be Senior Day for a good portion of the Wolf Pack roster so combine that with playing for a conference championship, emotions will be high at Lawlor Events Center.
If Nevada defeats San Diego State on Saturday, the Wolf Pack get a share of the Mountain West regular season title and the top seed in the Mountain West conference tournament in Las Vegas starting next week. So much is on the line in Reno on Saturday when the Aztecs come to town.
