LUCKNOW: A neurologist, infamous for his earlier brushes with the law, was arrested by UP Special Task Force (STF) from New Delhi for duping 500 people by promising them government jobs in the health department of Uttar Pradesh.
The accused Dr Altmash Hussain was arrested from Nizamuddin West in New Delhi on Wednesday. STF said Hussain is accused in 12 cases of fraud and dishonesty in UP while two cases of similar fraud are registered against him in New Delhi.
Dr Hussain did MBBS from KGMU in Lucknow and a post graduate diploma in neurology.
ASP, STF, Vishal Vikram Singh, said Hussain, a native of Deoria, was arrested and a car, Aadhaar card, a debit card were recovered from him.
“The arrest was made after his name cropped during the probe of a case of duping in which he had taken Rs 73 lakh from 19 individuals by promising them government jobs.
“After his post-graduation, Altamash had opened a hospital in Deoria and later shifted to New Delhi where he worked in prestigious hospitals. He had also been arrested by Delhi Police for black-marketing of remdesivir vials when there was very high demand for the drug during the second wave of Covid-19,” said Singh.
During the probe, it surfaced that Altamash used to lure people in smaller cities like Sitapur and Deoria and promised them jobs in the health department in lieu of money. He used to charge Rs 2-3 lakh for class four jobs in the health department.
“When the individuals went to the health department with their appointment letters to join, they got to know that they had been cheated,” said STF officials.
