Network Rail job pays £30k and you don't need experience

If you're looking for a career change you could be in luck as Network Rail are hiring for an exciting position that doesn't require any experience.

The vacant role is a grade II signaller based at one of Network Rail's north-west route's signalling locations.

The role pays just shy of £30,000 per year and best of all doesn't require any formal experience.

The role could be based in Liverpool, Warrington, Chester or Crewe.

The job application said: "You’ll make sure trains travel safely and efficiently along your part of the network. Managing the signals on your part of the network, you’re an integral part to passenger and freight journeys, as well as the safety of our maintenance colleagues out on track."

It later says the rail management company are focused on an applicant's transferrable skills and behaviours so no formal rail experience is required.

The company does add any work an applicant has done that requires concentration, is safety critical and involves communicating with others should stand them in good stead.

The application also says extensive structured training will be provided for any applicant which will give them the skills and confidence to succeed in the role.

Network Rail say transferrable skills including good communication, the ability to learn, the ability to work both alone and as part of a team, and good attention to detail are needed.

It adds being able to work under pressure and make good decisions quickly are also needed for situations such as if trespasser goes on the rail line.

For an applicant to advance to the interview stage, they will need to achieve a passing score on the application screening questions, as well as meeting the minimum pass benchmarks in Network Rail's psychometric testing.

They will also have to be within a 60 minute commute of the signal box locations in the area they're working and need access to their own transport due to the role involving days, nights and weekends.

Staff will also be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

The application states Network Rail's signalling community comes from a variety of different backgrounds and they focus on transferrable skills and behaviours above all else.

Applicants have until Thursday, December 23 to apply. They can apply here.
