Network Rail has issued an apology after commuters were hit by a full day of cancellations near Leeds at the weekend.
No trains ran in either direction between Harrogate and Horsforth on Sunday, January 26, with LNER, Northern and TransPennine Express customers among those affected.
Planned engineering work had been scheduled for months, which meant that LNER services towards London terminated at Peterborough as a major construction scheme continued at King's Cross station.
However, travel plans were also thrown up in the air for people commuting near Leeds following damage to Bramhope tunnel.
Urgent repairs had to be made after boulders fell onto the line and caused significant damage in the Grade II listed tunnel, which spans more than two miles between Horsforth station and the Arthington Viaduct.
A statement from Network Rail said: "We apologise to passengers who travelled to or through Leeds this weekend for the disruption experienced.
"This was due to a combination of planned engineering work coupled with damage to Bramhope tunnel between Leeds and Harrogate.
"A full service is now in operation and we are carrying out an investigation into the cause."
