Netto will be opening stores in Lymm in Cheshire and Hull in November as part of plans to open 15 of its discount supermarkets this year.
Sainsbury’s signed a joint venture last June to bring the Danish chain back to the UK as part of its plan to fight back against the rise of German discounters Aldi and Lidl.
Netto stores opened in Sheffield, Ormskirk, Doncaster, Manchester and Leeds in November last year but Sainsbury’s has said little about their progress.
Industry insiders believe the stores are trading well and confirmation of the two new-build outlets appears to underline Sainsbury’s confidence in the venture.
However locals in Lymm have protested that they were promised a “high quality food store” leading them to expect Waitrose or northern chain Booths rather than the cheap and basic Netto.
