Nets waive David Nwaba after torn Achilles

NEW YORK _ The Brooklyn Nets have waived reserve guard David Nwaba, and they reportedly plan to sign G-League wing Justin Anderson of Raptors 905 to a 10-day contract.

Nwaba was ruled out for the season after tearing his Achilles in a Dec. 19 matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. He was averaging 5 points per game on better than 50% shooting from the field and 40% shooting from 3, while helping revitalize a Nets defense that had ranked near the bottom of efficiency metrics.

The Nets had a full roster and could only add a full-time replacement by waiving the injured Nwaba. Nwaba will be paid the full guaranteed amount of his salary this season, but his deal was non-guaranteed for 2020-21.

Anderson was a first-round pick in 2015 then bounced from Dallas to Philadelphia then Atlanta. He appeared in 48 games for the Hawks last season and averaged about 4 points per game. He's a career 30% 3-point shooter and is averaging 21 points in 13 G-League games this season.
