Netherlands vs Sweden: Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema backed to shine in World Cup semi-final by Faye White

Arsenal and England legend Faye White has backed Gunners superstar Vivianne Miedema to fire the Netherlands into their first World Cup Final tonight.

The European champions face Sweden in Lyon for the right to face USA on Sunday.

At just 22, Miedema has scored 61 goals in 80 appearances for the Oranjeleeuwinnen, and has become her country’s all-time leading scorer at this World Cup.

“I think they’ll beat Sweden,” White told Standard Sport. “They have too much up front.

“She (Miedema) really is a special talent.

"After she hit the record [for goals in a WSL season] with Arsenal, I said if the Netherlands can get to major finals then she will be up there with Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach as a striker that breaks all records — and [those two] benefited from being in the American team.

“Her body language and gait is so relaxed that she just eases into games, but when it matters she will score.”
